Past BEC Events

BEC Executive Series: David Liddy - CEO Bank of Queensland - 7 August 2008

In April 2001, David was appointed as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Queensland, one of Australia’s fastest growing banks.  Since his appointment, the Bank of Queensland has recorded a succession of record half-year and full-year profits and trebled its market capitalisation.  This has occurred through a complete transformation of the bank, with the opening of new branches and a return to more traditional, face-to-face, people-focused business and commercial banking services.

Entrepreneurs' Forum: Disruptive Innovation - 31 May 2007

Dr Peter Thomond provides insight into how businesses can enter a market and disrupt its strongest incumbents. Do you understand how businesses or new technologies with seemingly small markets start to displace those that are more established in the market?

“…disruptive innovations change the rules of the game, they usually kill firms who don’t see them coming, and create bags of new wealth for those that do…”

(Director of Ergonomics, IDEO, London)

Dr. Thomond is a pragmatist and energetic speaker who enlightened the participants about one of the important strategic phenomena in today’s competitive business environment. See presentation slides here.
